Melplash Ploughing & Hedgelaying

Well what a day, we had 25 entrants in total for the Melplash comp, age ranges from 13-72, and 37 for the ploughing. Not the best of hedges been flailed year ago & a mix of thorn hazel willow elder maple, but we all did what we could. Weather was very warm & sunny, very pleased to have got it done.. Well onto the prizes a very nice surprise to hold onto the Local trophy for the 7th year, But the biggest surprise was to win Overall for the 4th year. I didn’t expect to win my class never mind overall I would have been sure that a Devon entrant in the Open would have done.. I think the best hedging was done by all the Devon boys on a double combe hedge and made a BRILLIANT job of a really bad hedge.  Well done to Clive Bethell and Malcolm Dowding Pairs , Colin Risdon Open , Chris Claxton novice all gaining 1st places in there classes.
