A couple of little book finds

A classic childhood find (thank you @jb_antler_and_leathercraft) added to the Hedgelaying book collection 📚 Always on the lookout for old books that feature hedgelaying preserving any little piece of history with every one. And another one added to the collection I-Spy In the Hedgerow, dating from around the early/mid-1970s and originally priced at just 15p. Part of the I-Spy series, these little books hopefully encouraged children of the day to look more closely at the world around them. Packed with illustrations and snippets of rural life, it covers everything from the plants and flowers growing in the hedgerow to the wildlife that depends on them. It also explores traditional countryside skills and practices, including hedge maintenance, repairs, ditching, and of course hedgelaying. A wonderful 1970’s look at the rural landscape that has shaped the British countryside for centuries. Despite sharing this on social media and modern technology this is a reminder of a time when entertainment didn’t need batteries or screens, just curiosity, keen eyes, and a pocket-sized book to guide the adventure. #ispybooks #countrysideheritage #vintagebritain #britishcountryside #timespast
